After I wrote my last blog about how much trouble it is to share a house with a cat my humans had a talk with me. I don't think it makes sense, but they did try to explain to me why they have cats in the house. It seems that many people who want to adopt Golden Retrievers want a dog that is certified as cat friendly. With the three resident cats, once everyone settles down and gets along, our foster visitors move on to their new homes rapidly because we can certify them as being cat friendly. It often gets exciting for the first day or two until the vistor finds out how sharp the cats claws are. Chasing cats is fun, but when the cat groes tired of the game, the chasing had better stop.
This raises the question as to why anyone would want a cat in their home to begin with? It would be easier to get rid of the cat, it would leave more room and they could adopt a second homeless Golden Retriever. I remember hearing about an advertisement for chewing gum. "Double your pleasure, double your fun, adopt two Golden Retrievers instead of just one."

You have a wonderful idea, sweetie. The more Goldens the better and also the more German Shepherd the better, too. Take a peek at our kitty blog and you might understand where the cats fit in. Over at our place the kitties just love the Goldens. So, guess the kitties are there so they can worship the Goldens. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteI agree. Cats are dumb. I try to ignore them and pretend they don't exist. Even when that stupid one that lives outside our house tries to swat at me.

I guess having a cat around is not all that bad as long as it helps find forever homes faster for all those Goldens=)

My kitty is 18 years old, and has taught me the ropes (well, the ropes that my little big sister hasn't taught me). He's declawed, but that doesn't stop him from smacking me if I invade his personal space. Mom and Dad tell me this is good training. I'm not sure if it is good, but I like my kitty. Besides, he has really tasty food! *grin.
ReplyDeleteYou make a very good point. The same thing happened to a friend of mine who had a dog and started dating a girl who had cats. I'm not sure but that could have been part of the reason why they broke up.
