A bad day at the dog house!

I have not been blogging for a few days. I am in mourning. They covered the swimming pool for the winter. Where once there was joy and fun, now there is only a large black canvass cover. Life as we know it is over. No more splashes before breakfast. No more running inside wet and shaking the water off in the living room. No more getting yelled at and being locked outside when I am wet. The humans told me they would open up the pool again when spring comes. How long does winter last? I mean how long in dog years?

The human did not think it was funny, when he cleaned out the pool filter he dug out a large matt of dog hair that look like one of the carpets you clean your feet on at the door. He could knit a new retriever from all the hair if he had saved it.

My three cousins went back home, not only did I lose my swimming pool, but I lost my playmates as well. Life has been very boring, Bella and I went to the pet store and swiped some treats off of the counter, but it is just not the same as it is when five of us are playing.

I had my portrait taken today. I also practiced giving product endorsements. If anyone would like to pay me to chew up their product, I am ready.

My human has a birthday, he has asked people to make a donation to their favorite rescue organization instead of buying him stuff he does not need. The links on the left of the blog will take you to Golden Retriever rescue, or All Breeds Rescue, where you can find a rescue for any breed of dog or cat. They take credit cards on line. In these days of tight finances, dogs are always the first ones that are thrown out on the streets.
Do you like my new portrait?

  1. Sorry for your loss--the swimming pool! It will be exposed again for you to jump in--probably next spring, right? Yes, several of those pictures are great--my mom says it makes your fur look so soft.

    love & wags,

  2. Hi Mogley,

We didn't get to comment on your cat blog, as our mom was hogging the computer, saying she was "busy" -- but we have to say a big "thank you" for exposing cats for us. Mom says we should be nice to the cats, because they are "nice" to us. She says Cricket (the escapee) loves us, as clearly evidenced by the way he plays with us and cleans Riley's head and tries to snuggle. But Riley makes sure to turn his head away and show his disapproval! At least Katy, the other kitty, just ignores us. We are sorry you lost your pool for the season -- that is a shame. We know how much you will miss it. I guess until then, you will just have to swim in your dreams. The snow will be fun to play in though, just wait! Your portraits are great -- they really show how handsome you are. It sounds like you are missing your cousins, too -- I hope you can arrange a play date with them again soon. Hey, at least this way, you get more of the human's attention, right? Take advantage of the extra hugs and pets. Thanks for sharing, Mogley. And please tell your human "happy birthday!"

Riley & River (hey, look at that -- two comments from "Rivers"!)

  3. Hey Mogley,
Come on down to my neighborhood of california, our pool is open all year. Why would anyone cover up a swimming tub, we are all weather swimmers, right?

    Your buddy,

  4. Mogley your portraits are just beautiful! You are such a handsome boy! I'm so sorry you're in mourning. Spring will be here before you know it and just think of the fun you can have in the snow! Does it snow where you live?

    Benson and Gibson

  5. I just love reading your blog, Mogley. You are the most handsome dog. Your portrait is great!

  6. Hey Mogley,
We guess summer goes away earlier in Colorado than here in Bumpass. Last year it was 95 on today's date; this year it's only 78. It'll be in tnhe 80s next week though. We have Indian Summer here. Our lake doesn't close for the winter and our side of the lake is heated so we can swim all year. Sometimes we'd ice up on the way back though so we don't get to go if it's too cold even though the water is warm. We like playing in snow but we only get it once or twice each winter; we bet you get it a lot more than that.
