One reason we have not been blogging regularly is that we were all busy taking care of Murray. Murray was our large, long haired, black feline friend that was in charge of teaching the foster Golden's proper respect for a cat. He weighed over 14 pounds when in his fighting trim.

Murray had been in and out of the vets office for a month while fighting off lymphoma. He left us today, but over 40 foster Golden Retriever friends will remember him for teaching them how to show proper respect to a cat. Murray would walk in front of a new foster dog, just to make sure they realized who really ran the house. Bella may think she is the Alpha female, but she still walked around Murray. Murray did not mind teaching our homeless foster dogs, Murray had been a rescue himself and he never forgot where he came from.

Before he left, he passed the baton to Mini Cat. Mini has accepted the challenge and will continue to educate dogs on how to relate to a cat. By being cat friendly a homeless dog will greatly increase their chances of finding a good forever home. The notation on their web posting that they were "cat friendly" always brought more responses and offers of better homes. Buddy, the large white Persian will help, but he was de-clawed when we found him at the pound, and he does not command the attention and respect that Murray and Mini command due to their better weapons. Still, Buddy does take up his position at the head of the stairs where he will dare dogs to challenge him for possession of the top step.

Thank you Murry, you have been a good friend and companion for over 13 years, you will be missed by everyone in the pack.

  3. Dear Mogley, Bella, and family,

We are so sorry for your loss of Murray. It's never easy to lose a cherished friend and member of the family. Please know that we are thinking of you while you grieve his passing. Murray must have been a wonderful cat and it sounds like he was an expert at proving that cats and dogs can get along like best of friends (or at least learn to tolerate each other!). We know he will be missed.

    Lots of furry hugs,
Riley & River the Goldens, Cricket & Katy the Kitties, Colleen the human, and Sunny the foster Golden

  4. We are sorry to hear of your loss. I know the importance of having a cat how can properly educate us dogs. In my house, Mr. Bufus is a 20 year old Maine Coon who has taught many of us the proper respect for cats. Even at his advanced age, he rules the roost with an iron paw. (And he is declawed - a rescue kittey - but I can tell you from experience that he still had a mean right hook!) We will light a candle for Murray to guide him on his way.

  8. We're so sorry for your loss of Murray. He sounds like a great character who left behind many smiles.

  9. So sorry to hear about your Murray. He is romping at the Bridge with all his doggie friends now. All foster homes need a cat like Murray to keep the dogs in line.

  12. So sorry to hear about Murray. What a legacy he has left, such big paws to fill... We wonder what Murray thought when greated at the Rainbow bridge by so many goldens??? We are sure they cleared the way out of respect and thanks for giving so much to so many. We celebrate the memory of Murray and thank him for being part of our jouney.

    love & wags,

  15. leaky eyes...we never have our beloved pets long enough..never

  16. Hey Mogley,
Our deepest condolences for the loss of Murray. Around here, Big Al, Boogers Boru and Jenny-Jen-Jen are equal pack members. they might not take up as much time and attention as the rst of us but they are just as loved. We're sure that Murray will be missed and that he has left a mark on everyone's heart. Being cat considerate, if not out right friendly, is indeed an important trait for adoptive dogs to posess. Murray was an important aid to Golden retriever recsue by hs educating of foster pups.
